Effects of Depression

Many victims of war, terrorist activities, rape, riots, and natural calamities go into the state of depression. They complain of tension, sleeplessness, and difficulty in concentration. They are affected by frequent nightmares in which the trauma is relived. Even long after the trauma the victims experience emotional numbing in relation to everyday events and feelings of alienation from the rest of the world. In spite of the presence of the large number of people in any social gathering the victim of depression feels isolated or left out. They begin feeling lonely and suffer from inferiority complex. They think that there is no body to support them. Depression is a state when an individual becomes totally helpless and exaggerated. A person having depression always tries to remain in a dark room sitting idle and thinking continuously. They don’t even like talking or sharing their thoughts even with their loved ones. Some of the patients of depression become even alcoholic. Depression is just like any other disease which requires treatment. Most of the time depression occurs due to external societal factors but sometimes the cause of depression is unknown. It is mainly caused due to an imbalance of certain chemicals in the brain. Depression also results in sad mood, low
energy, poor concentration, appetite changes, felling of worthlessness and hopelessness and thoughts of suicide. Depression can generally be traced to a combination of physical, psychological and environmental factors. A depressive disorder involves a person body, moods and thoughts. Generally depression has a very dominant effect on the overall health of the person. An individual suffering from depression always shows some kind of abnormal behavior which disturbs the atmosphere of the area. In other words it has a very negative effect in the mind of the people noticing him. The patient is unaware of the situation and keeps on behaving against the norms. He stops taking interest in social gatherings, completing official work or performing official activities. Thus the effect of depression goes on increasing with the passage of time unless and until proper treatment is not given to the patient.
