We live our lives happily if everything goes correct. But if something goes wrong then we suffer through a phase of sadness and melancholy. In our common language this phase is termed as depression. Every person at some point of time during his lifetime suffers from depression whether it is intense or mild. The dictionary describes “depression” as a phase of sadness. Clinically, it means that those substances which keep the state of mind balanced are not being produced in required quantity. Some people suffer from depression due to loss of some person while the other suffers due to some mishap in their lives. This brings a drastic change in their personality and behavior. They become socially numb.
Depression is of four types. Manic depression, which includes extremity of moods. A person can change mood from happiness to suddenly in anger or sadness. The brain is not able to control our emotions in this state. Clinical depression, a state in which a person suffers from extreme sadness. In this case the person can also go into shock. This is reflected in his personality and social behavior. He becomes short-tempered. The other two types include premenstrual and postpartum depressions. These can only occur in females. Premenstrual depression occurs due to some hormonal changes before the menstruation occurs in a female body. Postpartum depression occurs after a female gives birth to a child due to some chemical changes in the body.
Depression can be caused by various factors. It may be caused psychologically due to some loss of a precious thing or the death of some beloved person. Depression caused by due to death of that person takes the form of mourning. It can also be caused due to heredity. A state of sadness is passed into generations. This kind of depression is quite tricky. It can skip generations but it then comes back in the following generations. Depression can also be caused due to genetically. Studies say that due to lack of formation of serotonin and norepinephrine, depression is caused to the person. These two substances are produced by brain to keep a balanced state of mind. Depression can also be caused due to sudden environmental changes. In this case a person is said to be environmentally depressed. Environment plays a vital role in shaping the person’s behavior.

e able to recognize it. But we need a proper medical attention to fix this problem. Consulting a psychiatrist or a doctor is the most suitable fir aid for it. There are several types of treatments. Some of the patients of depression become even alcoholic. Depression is just like any other disease which requires treatment. Most of the time depression occurs due to external societal factors but sometimes the cause of depression is unknown. It is mainly caused due to an imbalance of certain chemicals in the brain. Depression also results in sad mood, low
energy, poor concentration, appetite changes, felling of worthlessness and hopelessness and thoughts of suicide. Depression can generally be traced to a combination of physical, psychological and environmental factors. A depressive disorder involves a person body, moods and thoughts. Generally depression has a very dominant effect on the overall health of the person. An individual suffering from depression always shows some kind of abnormal behavior which disturbs the atmosphere of the area. In other words it has a very negative effect in the mind of the people noticing him. The patient is unaware of the situation and keeps on behaving against the norms. He stops taking interest in social gatherings, completing official work or performing official activities.
